Registration, school buses and attendance areas

Education and schools, gov.nu.ca ↗
Attendance areas
One or two schools per community, so there are no catchment lines; students attend the school in the community where they live
Register
At the school in the district where the family lives; children who turn five by December 31 may register, and six-year-olds must
School buses
Where a community has school busing, the District Education Authority runs it; the Department buys buses for communities through its capital plan
Weather closures
Decided locally by the school and DEA, following the community's blizzard and wind-chill warnings
Attendance
The Education Act makes the DEA responsible for attendance; the Department reports the territory-wide rate every year, 69% in 2023-24
