What each number means

How many days are in the Yukon school year?

The calculator counts it from the school boards and authority's own calendar: every weekday between the first and last day of class, minus the statutory holidays, breaks and non-instructional days that calendar lists.

Most run Monday, August 24, 2026 to Friday, June 11, 2027. Across Yukon the first day falls between Aug 20 and Aug 24, and the last between Jun 4 and Jun 11, so the answer really does depend on which school boards and authority you pick.

How many days is winter break?

The calculator gives the run of days off, not the dates printed on the calendar. A break printed as Dec 21 to Jan 1 is longer than that in practice, because the weekend either side is attached to it, and that run is what a family actually plans around.

3 of 3 school boards and authorities take exactly the same dates. It also tells you the first day back, which is the thing people usually want in January.

How many days is spring break?

Same method: the days off in a row, plus how many of those were school days. 2 of 3 school boards and authorities take Mar 8 to Mar 19, and the rest take one of 1 other week.

This is the one worth checking rather than assuming: a week out either way is a holiday booked on the wrong days.

How many days is summer break?

Marked as an estimate, because it is the one answer no calendar can give. Summer ends in the next school year, and the 2027-2028 calendars are not published yet.

So the calculator measures how far after Labour Day this school boards and authority started this year, and assumes it will do the same next year. It says so on the card rather than presenting a guess as a fact.
